Rain, and the specific pleasure of being indoors during it

A working theory about why the same weather feels different through glass.

There is no meteorological difference between the rain falling on you and the rain falling two metres away on the other side of a window. The difference is entirely a matter of who is exempt.

Comfort is not a state, it is a comparison. A warm room in June is unremarkable. The same room in a downpour in October is a small triumph, and you did nothing to earn it except be inside already.

This is worth knowing because it is one of the few reliable pleasures available on demand for the price of noticing it.
